| | Global rating : | | Don't stick to the first impression given by the ryokan! This unattractive tall building, located just in front of a busy road, it the gateway to one of the most interesting rotenburo of the area! Visitors reach the bathing area by descending 300 stairs toward the river. There, two large rotenburo seems completely lost in the nature. An incredible place, really!
| Size : | | One rotenburo is located directly beneath the river - in fact, almost a small pond formed by the river; part of this bath is covered by a large stone creating a small cave bath with a window. It is even possible to dip directly in the river, if you are getting too hot. The second, larger bath is a little bit higher.
| View : | | From the larger rotenburo, and incredible view on the river is offered. The river, at this place, is not flowing directly, but rather forms small ponds due to the presence of very large rocks in its bed. Since the path reaching the baths is very steep, it seems that the trees growing between the road and the baths are almost falling toward the river. And not a single building can be seen from there... The only unfortunate thing is the presence of several pipes around the baths. They should have been hidden...
| Modesty : | | Private tidy changing room for women is available - as well as a small rotenburo. The men, unfortunately, have to change in front of the bath...
| Area : | | Discovered 800 years ago, Shiobara is a popular onsen resort located on the Hokigawa River. Most of the onsen, which are obtained from eleven hot springs, are located close to this river, surrounded by woods. This area is especially famous during the koyo season, in late autumn, when thousands of Japanese gather to observe the beautiful colors of the trees. Although hiking trails are available, and several ski fields in winter, due to its vicinity to Tokyo, the whole place is definitively overdeveloped...
