A typical bath that can be found in Europe... in the middle of japanese mountains!

Global rating :
Sekizenkan is famous in Japan for its onsen, especially Genroku no yu, a bath house built in a European style in 1930. Visitors and guests arriving in this old ryokan first pass through a bridge to cross the mountain river flowing in Shima Onsen. On their right, that bath house is easily recognized by its arch windows opening on the river. Behind it, the ryokan itself is quite old, and shows clearly its age on some places. The mixed inside bath is located in that building. In fact, this bath itself is not very attractive, and can be easily skipped to enjoy more time in the segregated bath house.

Size :
Genroku no yu is a segregated bath house with a symmetric design for men and women: there are five baths in each part, one large in front of the entrance and four smaller (typically for 2-3 persons) behind the larger one. Thanks to the large windows, the room is very bright and pleasant, but without changing rooms (people just remove their clothes next to the entrance). There are also two cramped sauna for one person, with just one couch and a door!

View :

Modesty :
There is only one konyoku, and a rather small one indeed. Only one changing room is available, but there is a panel to separate a little men and women (although someone will have to change in front of the entrance)...
