| | Global rating : | | Situated just in front of the Oku-Yamada ski resort, this hotel looks more like an European building than a typical Japanese one. People there are very friendly and you can choose a special lunch set : food and onsen. One particularity of the outside bath, it was carved inside a cedar brought from United states.
| Size : | | Not the biggest bath we visited, but it is a rather deep one... Well, you are basically bathing in a tree, so obviously the diameter is limited. The rotenburo can still accommodate 5-6 persons at one time....
| View : | | Mountain view and you can catch a glimpse at people skiing (especially enjoyable when it is snowing !) - this is a nice variation, as most onsen in the area have a view on a river.
| Area : | | The Yamada Onsen area is one of our preferred place to enjoy a short trip from Tokyo, especially in winter. Not only it is located just a couple of kilometers from the highway, but also is it rather isolated and therefore barely crowded. Two ski fields are found there, as well as three great mixed rotenburo, all of them ranking as some of the bests in Japan! In Summer, Manza can be easily reached, but the road is closed in winter - as are some of the onsen.

When you will go there, if you like sausage, you have to try their excellent home made ones (take out available, 5 for 1000 yen). We could not ski during our trip, as the weather was very windy, but still enjoy the place - not overcrowded as most of the big Japanese resorts.
