Ratings   (explanation of our rating system)

Global rating :
Should the baths of Shiobara be too crowded - which unfortunately seems to happen often, just head off to Hito no yado, about 8 km from Shiobara (car will then be needed). In this very clam place, you will enjoy segregated bathing with a full view on a nice, mountain river.

Size :
The inside, wooden bath is quite large, while the rotenburo is a little more cramped.

View :
Beautiful view on the river located very close to the bath. Surrounded by trees, soaking in this bath is really pleasant in autumn.

Area :
Discovered 800 years ago, Shiobara is a popular onsen resort located on the Hokigawa River. Most of the onsen, which are obtained from eleven hot springs, are located close to this river, surrounded by woods. This area is especially famous during the koyo season, in late autumn, when thousands of Japanese gather to observe the beautiful colors of the trees. Although hiking trails are available, and several ski fields in winter, due to its vicinity to Tokyo, the whole place is definitively overdeveloped...
