| | Global rating : | | This ryokan features a small, not very appealing rotenburo. Instead of paying to bath there, you might as well head off for the free near-by rotenburo located on the other shore of the river. But if privacy is the main issue, then you might prefer the ryokan's!
| Size : | | An extremely small bath, which can probably host at most 2-3 persons. The bath has a circular shape... and a sort of stone table in the middle of it, further limiting its size.
| View : | | The bath is surrounded by walls on three sides, opening toward the river of the forth one. Being a little higher than the river, it provides a nice view on that river... as well as on the two free baths located on the other shore of the river.
| Modesty : | | Probably OK if you are by yourself, otherwise it might be embarrassing to share such a small bath with someone from the opposite sex.
| Area : | | Shima Onsen is situated along the Shima river, at the end of a mountainous valley. For more than 1000 years, its waters have been considered effective for the treatment of many diseases, making it one of the top onsen town in Japan. But unlike many of those towns, Shima onsen is still a quiet place, perhaps due to its remoteness. The Okushima lake, formed by a dam, is also worth a visit.
