| | Global rating : | | This ryokan is a two-stories building which is rather unappealing from the inside... And from the lobby, which is fitted with a very weird pink carpet. The inside of the building is also rather old. There is however a rather nice garden behind the dining room, nested next to a hill. There is one rotenburo in the garden, as well as a building with segregated inside baths.
| Size : | | The mixed rotenburo is rather small; probably just OK for 4-5 persons. The inside baths are even smaller... This is to say that this onsen is probably pleasant only is no one is there at the same time of you...
| View : | | The view on the small garden, which is rather a wild one, is nice. Unfortunately, if the people soaking turn around, they will face a huge bamboo fence which is quite ruining the feeling...
| Modesty : | | Women and men have separated changing rooms and inside baths, but walk a couple of meters to reach the small mixed bath. The only issue for modesty is that the bath is opened toward the garden and the ryokan, and rather unsheltered.
| Area : | | Discovered 800 years ago, Shiobara is a popular onsen resort located on the Hokigawa River. Most of the onsen, which are obtained from eleven hot springs, are located close to this river, surrounded by woods. This area is especially famous during the koyo season, in late autumn, when thousands of Japanese gather to observe the beautiful colors of the trees. Although hiking trails are available, and several ski fields in winter, due to its vicinity to Tokyo, the whole place is definitively overdeveloped...

The bamboo fence is not very esthetic, though | | | | | | | | |
