Thanks for those photos.

Indeed, skiing in Japan in late season can be really interesting! I was in Naeba, Niigata-ken last year during Golden Week, early May, and the ski was really good. We stay on the ski fields around Naeba, there was enough snow, not a single stone and the outside temperature was around 15 degrees Celsius! 

And the best of all: it seems that Japanese people do not ski after March, so the ski resort was empty, even if everybody was having holidays...

But this is the first time I hear about skiing in late May! As you said, weather can change really fast, so be prepared for that.
