Amazing! Probably one of my favorite destination in Japan! Hiking there is really good, and the location is far enough from the urban areas not to have too many visitors...

Don't miss some of the great onsen of that area :
- [url=http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Fukenoyu-spa.jpg]Fukenoyu is a small onsen whose baths are located directly above fume vents! Nothing fancy, but an incredible impression of being close to an amazingly active nature...
- Toshichi Onsen is close to the Hachimantai Pass. This ryokan (which is too expensive for its quality) has about 10 outside baths. But here is the real catch: follow the stream from the ryokan (upstream), and after about 10 minutes, you will find a nice free bath in the nature! Check the temperature first, some ponds there are at more than 50 degrees.
- Finally, Nyuto Onsen has great onsen, too...

Enjoy ;)
