HAKODATE　CITY　MUSEUM　OF　NORTHERN　PEOPLES
函館市北方民族資料館

This museum is located in the southern city of Hakodate. If you don't have time to go deep into Ainu culture, this can be an interesting option. The museum is located in the historical center of the city, and it is very convenient to access it by tramway or by foot while climbing down from the motomachi area.

In this museum gather many Ainu artefacts from Hokkaido, Kuril Islands and Sakhaline: clothing, weapons, canoe, woodcuts, engravings, sculptures, jewels, musical instruments. As far as I can remember, it is somewhat bigger than the Ainu Association of Hokkaido's exposition near the Hokkaido University Campus.

Pictures are forbidden inside, though.
