Hi et salut ŕ tous,

i just got a ticket to Japan from the 1-30 March. I have one friend i will see the first week i am there, near Tokyo, and then I am free. I was thinking of flying to Naha and exploring the islands, because i will be alone, and because it will be warm there and because i have no idea what else to do. Maybe it is silly to go to a county with as much culture and history as Japan and go to the beach though. I DO want to enjoy wherever i go and spend some time, rather than necessarily trying to fit in the whole country. So, any suggestions are happily welcomed.

If it makes a difference, I speak English, French, Spanish and Portuguese. No Japanese, but I can mime.

cheers!

Why not visit Okinawa, and indeed enjoy things you like during your holidays? There is no reason not to do so, indeed!

I would suggest to stay around Tokyo your first week (perhaps have a look at Kamakura, Hakone or Nikko), take the train to the Kansai area (Kyoto, Nara, Osaka) even if you just stay there for a couple of days - at least you will have an overview of the most famous Japanese cities) - and then fly to Okinawa...

If you decide to do so, I would strongly recommend to visit the Yaeyama islands - specifically Ishigaki and Iriomote. Check on this site, there are good guides for those destinations. Iriomote is amazing, and March is definitively the low season there... you obviously will be able to enjoy the sea, too.
