Hi,
I will be going back to Japan after a 10 years! I lived there as a high school student and now I want to stay with some friends where I lived in Kanazawa but also do a little travelling on my own. I was thinking of getting some R&R in Okinawa and would like to know if anyone can tell me of a nice minshuku to stay or any secret (not obvious) places to go and see.
many thanks

Hi Melanie,
Where exactly do you intend to stay in Okinawa? On the main island or on other smaller islands?
I do not know very well Naha and the main island. For what I have seen, it however is much more interesting - although more expensive - to travel a little more south to the Yaeyama islands, for example. Including Iriomote, which is the true jewel of Okinawa.
Of course Okinawa main island has many things to offer, but it lacks a little the exotic life you can find on more remote islands...

Iriomote sounds fabulous, so I think the extra expense is worth it! If there is any tips about this island that would be most appreciated. Best way to get there or places to stay etc. I'm going mostly for R & R and will have a hectic 3 weeks of travelling so only 4 days of rest on Iriomote and maybe a little sightseeing..
Cheers!
