Hi all,
I've been following the forum for a few months now, and I thought this would make a good first post for a newbie.
We're planning a 10-night leisure stay in Tokyo in late March/early April this year, and we've put the following itinerary together, with an emphasis on eating and shopping (and cherry blossoms!). It would be my first time in Tokyo, and I'd be grateful for any feedback you can provide.
Excepting the duration of the trip, nothing else is set in stone, and time frames serve only as rough guidelines.
Please let me know if there are any must-eat, must-drink, or must-see highlights you'd recommend!
Sorry in advance for the wall-o'-text.

Welcome tiktwo !
Wow, that's what I call a really detailed itinerary.
You seem to know what you wanna see and do - you sure seem to love nice food ! - so I would just say that I feel that day 7 seems to be a bit too packed : Asakusa + University of Tokyo + Ueno + Akihabara + Roppongi for dinner, that's definitely a lot ! You could use some more time around Ueno I think. For example with the Yanaka district (great atmosphere !) or the sanctuary of Yushima Tenjin.
Enjoy your trip ! :D |

Indeed, I have never seen such a detailed itinerary!
As Amano said, your schedule is really too packed! Keep in mind that transportation can be difficult to master the first days in Tokyo, and that you probably will get lost from time to time (I would even hope so, as it is a great way to discover the city).
Furthermore, I would recommend to take at least one day away from Tokyo - Kamakura or Hakone are great 1-day destinations, as 10 days in the capital could be really tiring for the first time ;) Furthermore, IMO, those are more interesting places that Odaiba (although I like Odaiba very much), and onsen in Hakone, for example, are the real stuff - not the one in Odaiba... |
